THE CAT'S MEOW: What's Good on the Shelf This Week- #188 ____________________________________________________________________
Landry Q. Walker (w); Eric Jones (p/i); Heroic Age (c); Rob Clark Jr. (l); cover by Jones with Hi-Fi Publisher: DC Format: monthly series Concept: Jumping out of your TV and into your comics comes the highly anticipated new cartoon BATMAN: THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD ! Each month, The Dark Knight Detective faces challenges that only he can solve – with a little help from his DC Universe pals! Thrill as Batman visits new places and old friends. Chill as he chases down the most powerful villains in the DCU , armed with only his Bat-gadgets and his wits! In this issue : Love hurts in our volatile and villainous Valentine's Day issue! Batman and Huntress team up to take down a would-be Super-Villain, but when they underestimate him - and his mad, love-struck scheme - our heroes find themselves wishing that it was only a movie. (from dckids.kidswb.com) Review: Batman certainly understands the importance of theater, but this time he's really going to have to face the camera…Mr. Camera, that is! While Mr. Camera may seem like an odd villain, the ability to see through any camera anywhere can reveal useful information such as, say, costumed heroes' secret identities! And while he may not capture his victims on film, he certainly knows how to hold their attention. Unfortunately, his latest interest is Huntress. I like the relationship between Batman and Huntress here, and the fact that Batman admits that while he understands theater and crimefighting quite well, he needs to work on being a friend every once in a while.
Paul Tobin (w); Christian Nauck (p); Terry Pallot (i); Sotocolor (c); Dave Sharpe (l); cover by Takeshi Miyazawa Publisher: Marvel Format: monthly series Concept: Bitten by an irradiated spider, which granted him incredible abilities, Peter Parker learned the all-important lesson, that with great power there must also come great responsibility. And so he became the amazing Spider-Man! In this issue: New York's police department has been known to hire bounty hunters, psychics and assorted spiritualists, but Peter Parker never thought he'd see the day when they sent out a call to hire… special agent Spider-Man? But is this offer too good to be true? Maybe even a trap? It would take a mind-reader to find out the truth, and luckily, Peter knows just such a person. Unluckily, that person is Emma Frost, the very person the police want Spider-Man to hunt down. (from marvel.com) Review: This issue finds Spider-Man no more enlightened about what happened with Chat than in the last issue, but he's about to receive a very special offer…a temporary badge from the NYPD! It's an offer he can't refuse, until he learns that not only is the Silencer in Chat's apartment, but that the Silencer is Emma Frost! Thus, Spider-Man finds himself in yet another sticky situation filled with surprises. Nauck does some nice action panels, and I love that Spidey is starting to talk to animals himself.
